Final piece

Final piece: creation process

Here is the process of how my final piece was created.

This is my scanned in drawing as I added a brightness and contrast level.

Curves added

Levels and curves added

Levels edited again

Starting to add text, I played around with colours and placements before I decided on where I would put it.

Copying and pasting feathers to create book flaps

The levels and exposure were edited

Creating the spine

I created my own logo for my own book publishing company

Levels and curves edited

Adding the logo to the spine

Adding the logo to the back of the book. I edited the levels of the blurb, as well as brightness and curves.

I added decorative lines to "trap" the text of the blurb

Added on the bottom

On one of the book flaps, I included information about the author... Me!

Starting to put everything together

Colour schemes

I tried and tested four different colour schemes here to see which would look best.

I drew out my design four times

I began creating a palette for my analogus colour scheme

Final draft

Here is the final draft. It shows how I planned out the design roughly in pencil, and I included the spine and book flaps so that I knew how they would look when I created them. This was the draft I used throughout creating my piece, as I constantly referred to using it as my design.

Emulation

Here, I drew my outline first, and added watercolours and oil pastel as my base colours.

Adding colouring pencil

Here I have added paints and more colouring pencil

Adding acrylics

I used oil pastel on the crown

I used colouring pencil on the flowers

Ink wash on the background

Editing levels

Editing curves

Changing the vibrance

Increasing the saturation

Editing the lightness

Finished piece

For this piece, I created an emulation of my work in the style of Marjolein Calijouw, using the same techniques as I learnt when I created an artist copy of one of her piece, 'Bird Braid.'

Here is the storyboard plan of the book, and you can see which image will be on each page, and how the book will be made.
